New Zealand is well known for its beautiful scenery, culture and our native wildlife. It is important that we save our wildlife from predators, because many of our native birds have already gone extinct. Before humans introduced mammals to the country, New Zealand was free of all pests. Birds were flightless simply because they didn't have to fly, and there were very little predators to endanger them. Now, we have numerous species of pests which prey on our animals and plants, and the predators are thriving in a habitat with so many defenseless animals. As a country, we have done conservation work to prevent this problem. Many volunteers have put out pest traps and bait stations and people have been designing new solutions. However, as a Wellington local, you play a part in protecting our wildlife too. By using pest control in your garden,  feeding the birds around your house and supporting sanctuaries and breeding programmes, you can be helping to save New Zealand's animals.

Why is pest control important?
